Originally from Italy, I have been traveling the world to follow my life-long dream of being a Volcanologist. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, and I recently relocated to Germany to work as a researcher at LMU University. What does that look like in the day to day life? I make my own lava by melting rock samples and I stir it to measure its viscosity (thickness). This tells me something about how far lava flows can move and how far can they get. I am also passionate about science communication, especially public speaking (e.g. Make What's Next) and article/blog writing (e.g. CNN, National Geographic), though I also have significant K-12 outreach experience. I founded my own outreach program, Science on Wheels, which serves adults living in rural communities all over Missouri and aims at encouraging a positive perception of science.
Everybody needs to meet a Volcanologist who can get Missourians excited about the science of lava!
