Common Ground Communication
Speaking Topics:
1. Connect and succeed
2. Creating common ground connections
Dave provides participants with guidelines in how to establish common ground and in creating "connections" with the people with whom they communicate in their personal and professional lives.
In a time with the world seems divided, we need to change our focus to emphasizing communication skills that will bring us closer together and help to resolve differences with others. When we combine common ground and connections into a common ground connections approach, we use existing skills to greater advantage.
A re-invention of our communication isn't needed. Instead, people focus on using two skills that they already use--establishing common ground and creating connections. This approach merely combines these skills into one approach and asks people to use them more deliberately and more often than they currently do. Their current communication supports them in their efforts to change to a common ground connections approach.
This presentation highly involves participants in really understanding two under utilized skills--common ground and connections. Participants will get out of their seats and interact with others and the presenter. They will feel what it's like to utilize their existing communication skills to greater advantage.
All interactions are processed at an individual participant level. That is, there are general lessons to be learned, but each participant will have a roadmap to follow when they go back to their jobs or the future interactions in their personal lives.
Adapting our communication in this way is something each of us can do right now. It starts with creating common ground connections with our immediate circle of friends, family, and work colleagues. It can then spread to our community, state, and even our country. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives and their reactions in turn affect others with an endless stream of possible outcomes. We become a catalyst for change in the United States.
