Why Linux is Fatser?

High Performance Computing (HPC) has been the exclusive domain of custom, high-cost processors and networks. Academia started researching the case of using commodity hardware and networks to perform HPC processing since the 1980's.
The rise of Linux as the ultimate HPC platform has been a spectacular trend over the past decade. In this talk, we try to research the causes of this success and how the Linux implementations are outperforming others.
We give examples of high performance implementations in the core subsystems like virtual memory management, networking, process scheduling, storage and task synchronisation.

Crisis Management in IT Services -- What I learned in 20 years

Computer systems are ubiquitous and it's fair to say that they run virtually every aspect of our lives by now. When we hear about a catastrophe or a crisis, we often focus on the "showy" parts of the story where clips of explosions and fires attract viewers' attention easily.
Information technology crises are a lot more subtle and have nearly no visual representations, so the public often keeps a fantasist view of what they are and how they are managed. In this paper, we shall be talking about how IT services organisations handle crises and I shall share with you some key lessons I learned along my 20+ years in the industry.
