Bio

“Our chief want in life is somebody who will make us do what we can.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Often we need an objective and supportive voice to uncover our potential. Mitch lives to be that voice. He works tirelessly to bring out the best in leaders and helps them build inspiring, enduring organizations. To his work with a range of clients (public, private, and not-for-profit), Mitch brings wisdom wrought from providing visionary/executive leadership, leader development, and counseling to a large church for 18 years. In this capacity, he also brokered unlikely public/private partnerships to benefit his city. Mitch knows the challenge and the beauty of bringing diverse perspectives together for a common goal and he is skilled at preparing wise, confident leaders to lead the way. An expert story-teller, Mitch is valued for his ability to inspire and mobilize people in a variety of contexts; from instructing small groups to providing keynote messages for thousands.

Active in the development of his adopted hometown, Fort Collins, Mitch has lead initiatives to strengthen neighborhoods and care for those experiencing homelessness while serving on a variety of boards including the Governor’s Clergy Council, the Colorado State Stadium Advisory Group, and the Coloradoan Newspaper.

While energized by these things, it is the experience of created beauty with his wife and four children that remain Mitch’s primary joy. You will often find him with them, marveling at something and smiling.

The Strange System Around Weak Chickens

When a weak chicken is destroyed in a coop, all the attention is directed at the blemishes of that one chicken. No other blemished chickens are noticed during the destruction of this one.

Could it be that this destructive tendency is really about distraction?

Does this happen in our organizations?

Why?

How does this strange system change?

The Miracle of Being Wrong

Being wrong isn't easy. In fact, science shows that admitting wrong is nearly impossible. You could say that being wrong is miraculous. It requires a miraculous change BUT it creates a miraculous change.

What does it take for us to admit wrong?
Better yet, what happens when we do?
Is THIS what the world needs now?

Too Proud To Listen To Afraid To Talk

These are the two errors fundamental to every leader's demise.

When The Problems Are Wicked, The Leaders Must Be Wise

Most of a leader's decisions require something more than the ability to chose right or wrong. It's not that simple. And adding more knowledge and hard work doesn't make problems don't go away.
A leader must have an ability to manage persistent tensions (for instance, the tension between profitability and growth). She must understand the dynamics of humans systems. Leaders must be more than ethical, smart, and hard-working. They must be wise.
Wise leaders are the need of the hour and the key to unlocking the potential in every organization.

  • I have been privileged to hear Mitch speak on a variety of occasions, and I can say that he is an engaging, thought-provoking speaker. Mitch always communicates with a conviction and passion that caries through to the listener. He does not shy away from delivering hard yet necessary truths, even if it's uncomfortable, yet he always does so in a clear and winsome way. After listening to Mitch speak, I’ve often felt bolstered and encouraged to take the next steps to become a better version of myself, and the difficulties I faced seemed more manageable. Mitch clearly cares for the people he speaks with, regardless if that’s a single individual or a room full of a thousand people. His desire to see people grow and succeed is tangible and effective.
