Landing speaking engagements requires more than just expertise—it takes proactive outreach and a well-crafted pitch. Event organizers often receive countless inquiries, so standing out means demonstrating your value, understanding their needs, and presenting yourself as the perfect fit for their audience. Platforms like SpeakerHUB Pro can streamline this process, offering tools to connect with organizers and create professional pitches. Here’s how to reach out and pitch yourself effectively.
Before contacting any event organizer, do your homework. Understanding their event, audience, and goals is crucial to tailoring your pitch. Here’s what to focus on:
Event Type: Is it a conference, workshop, webinar, or panel discussion?
Target Audience: Who attends this event? What are their challenges and interests?
Previous Speakers: Who has spoken at the event before? What made them successful?
Event Goals: What does the organizer aim to achieve? Education? Motivation? Networking?
With tools like SpeakerHUB’s comprehensive event database, you can easily find detailed information about events and organizers in your niche, making your research faster and more efficient.
Cold pitching can work, but building a connection with the organizer beforehand increases your chances of success. Here’s how:
Engage on Social Media: Follow the event and organizer on LinkedIn, Twitter, or Instagram. Comment thoughtfully on their posts and share relevant updates.
Attend Their Events: If possible, attend the event or similar ones they’ve hosted. This gives you valuable insights and makes your outreach more personal.
Leverage Mutual Connections: Use SpeakerHUB’s networking features to identify shared connections who can introduce you to the organizer.
A warm connection makes your outreach feel less transactional and more collaborative.
Generic emails are a surefire way to end up in the “no” pile. Tailor each pitch to the specific event and organizer by addressing their needs and showing you’ve done your research.
Key Elements of a Personalized Pitch:
A Clear Subject Line: Grab attention with a concise and relevant subject line.
Example: “Speaker Proposal for [Event Name]: Driving Innovation Through Leadership”
A Strong Opening: Start with a compliment or acknowledgment of their work.
Example: “I’ve been following [Event Name] for years, and I love how it brings together leaders to tackle [specific topic].”
Your Value Proposition: Clearly state what you bring to the table.
Example: “As an expert in [your niche], I deliver actionable insights that help [audience type] solve [specific problem].”
With SpeakerHUB Pro, you can create customized pitches using AI-powered templates that save time while ensuring your message is professional and compelling.
Event organizers want to know that you can deliver a high-quality, engaging presentation. Highlight your expertise by:
Sharing Relevant Experience: Mention notable talks, events, or organizations you’ve worked with.
Including a Speaker Reel: If you have video clips of past talks, share a link to showcase your speaking style.
Providing Testimonials: Include quotes or links to testimonials from previous event organizers or attendees.
Offering Specific Topics: Propose a few well-thought-out topics that align with the event’s theme.
Example:
“I specialize in [niche] and have spoken at [relevant event]. My signature talks include:
[Title 1]: [Brief description].
[Title 2]: [Brief description].”
Event organizers are busy. Keep your pitch concise—ideally, no longer than 3–4 paragraphs. Use bullet points to make key information easy to skim and avoid overwhelming them with unnecessary details.
End your pitch with a clear call-to-action (CTA) that invites the organizer to take the next step. Keep it simple and low-pressure:
“I’d love to discuss how I can contribute to your event. Are you available for a quick call next week?”
“Would you like me to send over more details about my speaking topics and availability?”
“Let me know if there’s an opportunity to collaborate—I’d be thrilled to contribute.”
If you don’t hear back within a week or two, don’t be discouraged. A polite follow-up email shows your enthusiasm and ensures your pitch doesn’t get lost in their inbox.
Example Follow-Up Email:
Subject: “Follow-Up on Speaker Proposal for [Event Name]”
Hi [Organizer’s Name],
I wanted to follow up on my previous email about speaking at [Event Name]. I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute and would love to discuss how my expertise in [your niche] can benefit your audience.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
