With opioid abuse at epidemic proportions failing to understand the types of pain is a major factor in not finding an effective solution to solve the problem. Opioids are the leading painkillers used for all types of pain. When a person is in pain what they want is immediate relief and the recommended solution is take a pill. This is a major problem, not fully understanding the top 3 types of pain. Taking opioids to stop pain does not work for the top 3 types of pain, which is physical, emotional, and financial pain.
These 3 pain types are the root cause of all pain a person feels and experiences. For many years working with my clients in relieving pain I discovered, as a pain relief specialist and educator at Focus On Healing Wellness Institute, to begin addressing the opioid crisis in our community we must look at what is the root cause connected to the type of pain. If we fail to examine the cause and type of pain, how can we provide a workable pain relief solution?
All pain begins in your mind. And you ask the question what does this mean? You're saying this pain is something I feel, and it hurts? Pain occurs because of a situation that happens outside of the body and triggers you to respond mentally that activates pain.
Here’s an example, you receive some disturbing news. The mind begins to process the news with all kinds of thoughts, you are now distracted, you have opened the door for the negative energy trigger to enter your body. This is what leads to the number one cause that is associated with the 3 types of pain, “STRESS”. Stress is known to cause accidents, health problems, physical, emotional and mental breakdown that manifests itself in the form of pain.
Why Understanding Pain Types Is ImportantTo understand pain types it's important to find the right pain relief that is a healthy way to solve the pain problem. As a healthcare practitioner I work with pain and it is my responsibility to find the right solution based on the type pain. First we must decide does the patient/client want a pain killer or pain relief. The two are not the same. Painkiller “destroys” and pain relief “repairs/restores”.
Physical Pain

Physical pain is your body telling you someting wrong and it hurts. Pain is a sensation caused by a certain type of message being sent through the nervous system. Physical pain is referred to when something hurts in the body and is associated with damage to tissues in the body. Physical pain can be caused by many things and can be described as throbbing, aching, or burning. For this type of pain opioids are the main painkillers used for treatment.
Emotional Pain

Emotional pain is conflict with resistance to what you see and feel that's going on in your life. Emotional pain is basically suppressed feelings associated with negative thoughts or beliefs used to define how you feel about yourself. This type of pain leads to depression, nervous breakdowns and mental health problems. Opioids have been prescribed as a support component in the treatment process.
Financial Pain

Financial pain is when the cost of living rises faster than paychecks do year after year. Financial pain is basically not having enough money to cover basic necessities’, food, shelter, healthcare and monthly expenses. This type of pain is also a big contributor to physical and emotional pain. Just think about how all 3 types of pain are connected and it is the cause of most health challenges physically, mentally and emotionally. Opioids are the known major painkiller used for this type of pain. Financial pain is the leading cause of the opioid abuse crisis.
As stated, Painkillers “destroys” and pain relief “repairs/restores”, you should now be able to see that to stop pain begins with identifying the cause of the pain and provide treatment that is patient/client focused. This means practitioners must decide what’s most important giving, patient/clients relief or giving patient/clients a quick fix. If we as health practitioners are serious about providing effective pain relief solution, its time to stand-up for the patient/clients we serve and put the “
