Why Advocating for Black Trans Folks in Tech Matters (and How to Do It)

Fighting for Black representation in the Tech industry continues to be brutal, even with tech companies “vowing” to increase their number of Black folks in the workforce. Now let’s add diversity AND inclusion -- what is the perfect example of this? Being Black and Transgender. Those who identify as Black and Transgender have a hard time finding any representation, especially relating to sustaining or finding a job/career. This talk focuses on informing and spreading the message that there is representation, resources, and mentors available to assist with their journey into the Tech industry. With the extreme poverty rate of Transgender individuals and a majority of that percentage being Black individuals, this talk will change the narrative and mindset that it is “impossible” to succeed and thrive being Black and Transgender in one of the highest paying fields in America.
