Empirical evidence suggests that circa 80% of most entity’s budget is spent on the acquisition of works, goods and or services. It is therefore imperative that all the actors involved in the process requires the necessary knowledge and solid foundation to deliver on their mandate. Unfortunately, the reverse is the case in many organizations, as non-professionals are often charged with the responsibility to undertake humongous spend on behalf of organisations. The author can testify to this assertion because he was involved in delivering many change initiatives in procurement re-engineering for a couple of large organisations and in fact, was the creator of supply chain management practice at a national oil & gas corporation. In this book, he underscores the importance of professionalism in procurement practice and the need to adopt the correct processes, systems and engage the right caliber of people to manage spend.
