This two-part workshop delves into the foundational elements and advanced practices essential for maintaining integrity in Abuse Intervention Programs (AIP). Participants will explore the historical context, research, and theoretical frameworks that underpin AIP work, examine values-based standards and practical implementation strategies, and engage with mindfulness techniques and trauma-informed practices to enhance facilitator effectiveness and well-being. Resources and lessons learned from Arkansas’s offender accountability program will also be shared. Sessions accounted for 3 hours of continuing education, while entire conference attendance was worth 8 hours of continuing education through the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence State Coordinating Council.

In this session, the presenters will introduce and discuss how domestic violence specialty courts can be utilized as coordinated community response. This workshop will feature the pilot program in Arkansas, review the various domestic violence court models, discuss the challenges of working with criminal justice stakeholders, and identify strategies to adapt this model to both rural and urban communities. Domestic Violence Intervention Programs (DVIP) are an evidence-based intervention for those who engage in abusive behavior. DVIP is specifically cultivated for domestic violence offenders (otherwise known as abusive partners). This workshop will provide important lessons learned about offender accountability and abuse intervention programs. Domestic Violence Intervention Programs (DVIP) are an evidence-based intervention for those who engage in abusive patterns. The presenter will define the various facets of DVIP, describe the efficacy of DVIP with abusive partners according to research, and discuss the challenges and successes of building an infrastructure for these programs.
