I am a civil rights worker from the 1960s. I attended the March on Washington (1963) where Dr. King made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, was a project co-director during the Mississippi Freedom Summer (1964), and helped organize the Selma-Montgomery March (1965) where I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with Dr. King.
I also helped Richard Beymer (West Side Story) make a movie in 1964 about Freedom Schools and voter registration. View the 28 minute version on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oma7-vNzJlE I am in this movie about a dozen times, but my main contribution was as the sound person and occasionally behind the camera.
For decades I have been lecturing about the civil rights movement to educational institution across the spectrum from elementary, middle, secondary, undergraduate and graduate students. My website includes links to all these activities as well as a current listing of my scheduled lectures. Please see charlesprickett.com .
I was recently honored by the NEA with their Carter G. Woodson Memorial Award at their annual meeting in Houston. Here is a link to the receipt of that prestigious award: https://youtu.be/72KtPIzbC-o
I am also an attorney and educator. I have been a Pro Tem Judge for 30 years in Small Claims and Traffic, and have taught at the University of Arizona, Cal State University, East Bay, Sonoma State University, as well as presentations at the University of Illinois and others. I have several letters of appreciation for my speaking engagements. My book, “Remembering Mississippi Freedom Summer” is available on Amazon, and there is a link to purchase the book on my website.
I am interested in speaking engagements. Please contact me with details as to how I can become a speaker with SpeakerHub.
