Bio

Cheryl Quimba is a speaker, advocate, and the founder of What Helps, LLC, a resource dedicated to supporting individuals and families navigating OCD, Scrupulosity, and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). She speaks with passion and empathy, drawing from her personal experiences and years of helping others. Her work is informed by a deep understanding of mental health challenges, having personally lived with OCD and Scrupulosity for decades.

Cheryl’s advocacy extends to her family as well. After adopting two children, she and her husband faced unique challenges with their daughter, whose needs didn’t fit traditional diagnoses. Upon discovering PDA, Cheryl’s family found transformative peace through new insights and accommodations.

Cheryl’s talks cover broader themes like resilience, hope, and self-advocacy. Drawing from her own journey and experiences with others, she offers practical strategies for overcoming obstacles and finding strength in the face of adversity. Known for her ability to make complex topics relatable and engaging, Cheryl uses analogies and stories that resonate with her audience. Her lighthearted, down-to-earth approach makes even the most difficult subjects accessible, empowering people to speak up for themselves and others. Cheryl brings a fresh perspective and a warm, supportive energy to every conversation.

Resilience In Low Demand Parenting

This training on "Resilience in Low-Demand Parenting" focuses on equipping parents with the tools and mindset needed to foster emotional strength and adaptability in their families. This approach prioritizes connection over control, helping parents build resilient relationships with their children while promoting long-term emotional well-being. There will be specific focus on parenting neurodivergent children.

The Power of Presence in Difficulty

The power of being present for others in the midst of difficulty lies in the simple yet profound act of showing up with empathy and compassion. In times of struggle, offering a listening ear or a supportive presence can be incredibly healing, allowing others to feel seen, heard, and understood. By being fully present—without judgment or the need to fix—we create a safe space where individuals can express their emotions, process their challenges, and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone. This kind of presence can bring solace, build trust, and help others feel stronger in facing their difficulties.

Looking Back: How Family of Origin Impacts Parenting PDA Kids

This training explores the profound influence your family of origin can have on your approach to parenting, especially when raising children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). By understanding your own upbringing, patterns, and triggers, you'll gain valuable insights into how these dynamics may shape your responses to your child's behaviors. Participants will learn strategies to break unhelpful cycles, build greater self-awareness, and adopt more effective, compassionate approaches that support their child’s unique needs. This training aims to empower parents with the tools to create a nurturing environment that fosters connection, resilience, and growth for both themselves and their children.
