Chris Bates

I don't speak about leadership from a textbook—I speak from 28 years of experience leading Marines, developing people, navigating difficult situations, and being accountable for the decisions that affect others. As a retired Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant, I bring a perspective shaped by service, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and leading people through both routine and extraordinary challenges. My academic background in Public Administration, Emergency and Disaster Management, and Criminal Justice complements that experience with a broader understanding of organizations and leadership. What I bring to an audience is not simply military stories. I translate those experiences into practical lessons that apply to businesses, government organizations, nonprofits, professional groups, and individuals. My goal is for people to leave a presentation with more than inspiration. I want them to leave with something they can actually use—whether that's a different approach to leadership, a better understanding of accountability, a renewed commitment to their team, or the confidence to take the next step. Most importantly, I believe leadership is about people. Titles and positions may give someone authority, but trust, character, competence, and the willingness to serve others are what make someone worth following.
