Key Takeaways: Knowledge of how singular thinking has invaded Project Management, an understanding in utilizing principles to view several different solutions, being able to determine when your team is thinking narrowly and how to encourage them to “zoom out” and think more broadly about solutions Abstract: Our culture has taught us to think in a “Sensus Solum” way - in Latin, to look for the “one answer.” While this may be fine in mathematics ("find the answer for 2 + 2"), this destroys the very premise of Project Management. Project Managers must be able to think “Sensus Plenior,” which means “fuller sense” or “deeper meaning.” Sensus Plenior thinking creates a plethora of options and solutions, while Sensus Solum locks us into a creative-less and innovation-less line of thinking. This teaching will identify where we have slipped into Sensus Solum thinking and will encourage and equip us to help our team zoom out into Sensus Solum wisdom.
