There are many types of tourism: recreational, diversionary, experiential, experimental, existential. Most often when we think of travel, it is described to us as recreational (inauthenticity traded for fun) or diversionary (temporary relief from something at home). In my talk, I will describe the experiential, experimental and existential form of travel which is unsupported bicycle tourism, and how it can be deeply impactful in the search for understanding oneself. I encourage people of any age to save up money and go on a rugged and fully mind, body and spirit engaging adventure. Life is short and we ought to live it as much as we can.
