In my roles as parent, manager and representative I have dealt with a wide variety of behavioral issues. From entitlement to victim mentality to plain old defiance, I've seen it all. These are destructive behaviors that only get worse if unchecked or encouraged. Particularly in the case of children, there is a natural tendency to want to concede or appease in these instances. But this is a disservice because it perpetuates negative actions, which will always lead inevitably to negative consequences. It is far more compassionate and beneficial to correct misbehavior when it is displayed. Being honest when it is unwelcome is difficult but all the more necessary.
