The Invisible Wounds (Signature Keynote)
Based on: Scared Silent: When The One You Love Becomes the One You Fear Ideal for: Conferences, workplaces, universities, community organizations The Invisible Wounds is my signature keynote drawn from my Simon & Schuster memoir, Scared Silent: When The One You Love Becomes the One You Fear. It reveals how verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, along with coercive control, creates captivity without chains and fear without bruises. As the former spouse of the D.C. Sniper, I bring a lived understanding of how control escalates, how stalking and post-separation abuse intensify during custody conflict, and how psychological terror can reshape a survivor’s identity, decision-making, and sense of safety. This keynote equips audiences to recognize hidden abuse early, understand manipulation tactics that are often mistaken for “relationship issues,” and respond with language and actions that increase safety rather than deepen danger. It also offers clear pathways for support; what to say, what not to say, and how to help without minimizing, blaming, or escalating risk. Audiences leave informed, empowered, and ready to take meaningful action to build safer homes, workplaces, and communities.
Calm Under Pressure
Ideal for: Corporate teams, service-based organizations, supervisors, government agencies When people are under stress, communication either becomes a weapon or a tool for stability. This session is grounded in my lived experience as the former spouse of the D.C. Sniper and decades of work supporting survivors and organizations. I teach teams how to recognize escalation early and respond with clarity before conflict turns unsafe. Workplace violence is not always sudden, it often has a build-up. In this keynote, I connect emotional regulation, boundaries, and de-escalation to real-world prevention: how to spot warning behaviors, how to respond to intimidation or volatile communication, how to document and report appropriately, and how leaders can create a culture where concerns are taken seriously and handled correctly. Audiences leave with practical tools for pausing before reacting, setting firm boundaries, de-escalating tense interactions, and leading difficult conversations with authority and composure, while strengthening a safer workplace culture without sacrificing accountability.
Stronger Than the Trigger
Ideal for: Military installations, Family Advocacy Program audiences, veteran-connected groups, first responders, helping professionals Trauma doesn’t only live in the body, it shows up in relationships, decision-making, and how people interpret danger. Drawing from my lived experience as the former spouse of the D.C. Sniper, I speak candidly about the impact of PTSD in military families, because he was diagnosed with PTSD, and when he returned from Desert Storm, the support systems that exist today were not available or accessible in the way families needed. As a wife at that time, navigating the signs, the shifts, and the danger while struggling to find effective help for him, and protection for myself, gave me a firsthand understanding of what military connected families can carry in silence. Today, through my partnership with the Family Advocacy Program, I help military communities recognize the overlap between PTSD, domestic abuse, and coercive control, while also highlighting that services and awareness have grown and can be life-saving when used early. Audiences leave with practical tools for trauma literacy, grounding strategies, and clear steps for support and safety that strengthen resilience without minimizing accountability.
