I started my career in 2015 as a case manager for a social services agency. Over the course of the next few years, I saw the significant challenges that marginalized groups face throughout our country. These experiences grew my passion for creating supportive, compassionate, empathetic spaces wherever I go.
Since then, I've had the opportunity to serve within several other industries; education, hospitality, and now technology. I used to think that my career path was too "winding," - that, from an outsider's perspective, it appeared to lack focus and direction. Now I understand that non-linear paths are more than normal; in fact, they are powerful. They build the flexibility and range we all need to tackle wicked problems and thrive. Plus, now I know how to roll the perfect burrito (thanks Chipotle!).
Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to build the people operations function at a startup. One of my favorite parts of this role has been creating an end-to-end recruiting and hiring process that seeks out curious, unconventional people from varied backgrounds. Listening to these candidates’ stories is usually the highlight of my week.
I love to encourage others to follow their curiosity, share their stories, and see the value they bring to the world.
