Bio

Over 15 years of professional leadership experience with an emphasis on overseeing multiple departments, training operations, leadership development, and community development. I have provided advanced individual and team development skills including; training, mentoring and evaluating performance.

Ernest J. Robinson is a man with a vision. He is an expert at cultivating, identifying, and maximizing human potential by exemplifying his belief that “speaking greatness does not make you great, great action makes you great.”

“Marine,” “Instructor,” “Recruiter,” “Representative,” “Coach,” and “Father” are all titles Ernest J. Robinson has worn while helping people to their success; whether it’s with peers in the halls of academia, colleagues, clients in corporate America, or student athletes on and off the football field.

Ernest has served as a United States Marine administrator and martial arts instructor for five different units worldwide and has helped thousands of Marines and civilians academically and professionally find their purpose.

After being honorably discharged from the military in October 2010, Ernest continued in higher education by completing his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Union University™ with honors, all while participating in the student government, as a student athlete on the football field, track and field, and while performing in the band.

For the past few years, Ernest has continued to serve his country in many different facets including working for the Department of Social Services, volunteering with the United States Global Leadership Coalition, and working on political campaigns on a local and national level.

Ernest is emerging as a catalyst for assisting business, athletic, and educational institutions train, inspire, and develop their employees, athletes, and students into potentially world-altering people. As an inspirational speaker, he makes a difference in the lives of young people every day through his work and volunteerism.

Chess vs Checkers: Understanding how and when to make the right move

As a new officer or adviser to SGA governance or advising can seem confusing and complex. This course will give a comprehensive look at how to recognize the strength of your position, have appreciation for everyone around you and it will give you what you need to know to maximize the potential for success. The structure and operations of an organization continually challenge student governments’ much like the complexity of a chess game. Although various approaches have stressed the development of skills or behaviors, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the development of roles and responsibilities is also relevant. In an effort to increase knowledge in this area this session will suggest responsibilities using the rules of chess and checkers to describe roles of various student governing bodies.

Who are you?: Fidning the leader within

Leadership development has been continually recognized by organizations as a competence and a mind-set that is worthy of substantial time and resources. Although various approaches have stressed the development of skills or behaviors, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the development of attitudes and belief systems is also relevant. In an effort to increase knowledge in this area this session will explore various leadership styles through media and interactive activities. Participants will discuss their perception of leadership (or lack of ) and how it looks in their respective field. The session participants will be able to identify how to become a leader and develop strategies to enhance our young leaders.
