Vitality of a Viking: Scandinavian Philosophy for Living Your Best Life at any Age.
This 60-minute program looks at the philosophy of Nordic countries from the Viking era 1,000 years ago to today's Scandinavian lifestyles. Why are we in awe of Vikings? How do the 5 Scandinavian countries rank in the top 10 of the UN's Happiest Countries in the world - and have since the inception of the rankings in 2010? I blend Viking Laws and modern Scandinavian trends and provide practical guidance for vitality and activity in life, especially after retirement. My mother was active and vital until 94 and I learned from her. I share ideas and practices to create a Viking mindset for anyone to live their best life here in America. Using clips from a television interview, I also include motivational insight from my mother, a true modern Viking. Insights for outlook and action that can help attendees create happiness and vitality in life. Program based on the books On With the Butter! by Heidi Herman and Never Too Late by Íeda Jónasdóttir Herman.
Iceland: Land of Fire & Ice, Legacy of Legend (a virtual vacation)
This 60-minute presentation blends together my love of Iceland and its mythology with the amazing landscapes and fascinating history. Take a journey through Iceland, a land where legends come alive. This presentation blends together the images of the country with the recollection of growing up, modern-day life in Iceland, and the legends and mythology that has been so prevalent from the Viking days through present-day. Using photos and video, the trip starts in Reykjavik from the archeological dig of a Viking settlement to the vibrant city of today. Using historical references, amazing natural photography and Ieda's memories of growing up, the culture comes alive. Heidi's entertaining incorporation of the mythology and stories from the Sagas that tie to regions and towns bring the legends to life. The culture and the fascinating history is brought to life through a tour of vibrant photographs and narration.
Icelandic Cooking Demonstration
The food and cultural history of Iceland is unique to Scandinavia and dates back to the time of the Vikings. I will prepare two dishes from my cookbook while sharing the history and trends of food in Iceland from settlement, to former days, to present. Samples for taste testing included as part of the demonstration. I partnered with my mom, Ieda Jónasdóttir Herman, to develop this presentation from our co-authored cookbook.
