Author and cartoonist Huda Fahmy illustrates the popular webcomic Yes, I'm Hot in This that follows the misadventures of a Muslim-American woman who is trying to navigate her ho-hum life in the least sweaty way as possible. Fahmy published her first book Yes, I'm Hot in This: The Hilarious Truth About Life in a Hijab in 2018 and is currently working on several other projects.
Fahmy connects with audiences by presenting a hilarious, relatable, and painfully honest story about life as a Muslim and how she uses humor to cope with the anxieties of her every day life that breaks down barriers and shows how universal our everyday problems, worries, and joys actually are.
Feeling very underrepresented as a hijab-wearing Muslim woman, Huda was motivated to write after the Muslim Ban was put in effect. She talks about using humor in her comics to cope with the real life situations Muslims experience on a daily basis. She also discusses her journey to finding her voice in art and writing. She describes the terror of learning a new skill, and the joy of growing more confident in her voice and expression. She also talks about how religion is often used to divide us, when we should be using it to highlight just how similar we actually are.
