Irene Greaves is the Founder and Director of Lovescaping, an organization with the mission to reimagine schools as places where we systematically cultivate love in action. As a Lovescaper, she believes learning to love should be an essential purpose of our educational journeys. Irene has dedicated her life to service. She graduated in 2009 from The American University of Rome with a BA in Art History and in 2015 obtained an M.Ed. from The University of Pennsylvania. Irene is originally from Venezuela but considers herself a global citizen. Her wealth of international study, volunteer, and work experience across the world have given her a nuanced and unique view of the world that has allowed her to create Lovescaping. Irene has worked in education and community development over the last 15 years. In Venezuela and Italy, she worked with schools and organizations that promote the inclusion of populations with special needs, including autism and down syndrome, through education and sports. She has worked as a teacher in China and Mozambique, teaching ESL, Spanish, and community service. In Mozambique, she taught students ages 4-50+ and co-founded The Ku-Kula Project to expand an elementary school for 700+ children and provide access to educational opportunities for youth and adults. She worked with and trained teachers in the English language and pedagogical tools for engagement. She organized youth-led initiatives for community development. Irene also worked in emergency relief after devastating floods in Mozambique that displaced 70,000 people. She worked as an interpreter with international NGOs and taught and worked with children in refugee camps. She taught English in China at the kindergarten and pre-school level, designing curricula and co-leading a community service class for middle and high schoolers after school. Irene worked with UNICEF in Guatemala within the Education Department to support intercultural bilingual education and indigenous women leaders’ empowerment and involvement in education. Irene worked closely with the Ministry of Education in Guatemala, designing and leading training for 200+ staff members in changing and adopting social norms. These life experiences led her to create her philosophy of life and her pedagogy of love, Lovescaping.
