Jean Strait

Jean began her career as an elementary education teacher in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, eventually earning a Master’s degree in Literacy Education and later two Doctorate Degrees, one in Curriculum and Instruction (Teacher Education) and the other in Educational Psychology. For the last 25 years, Jean has served as an administrator and professor of teacher education, fifteen of those years at Hamline University. She is widely published in the areas of service- learning, cultural competence/multicultural education, urban and rural education issues, parent engagement, and brain research. Growing up in two cultures, Native American and White, Jean became deeply rooted in community needs. These relational connections have provided her with an experienced, diverse network locally, nationally and globally. This past year, Jean served as the Associate Vice President of Educational Pipeline Initiatives at Buffalo State University in Buffalo, NY. Jean moved back to Minnesota this year and serves as the Executive Director of FACE, Foundation for the Advancement of Culture and Education. ( http://www.faceeducation.org ). She also serves as co-editor of the IJRSLTE, The International Journal of Service-Learning in Teacher Education along with Dr. Kathleen Tice, of the University of Tyler.
