Bio

Leave it to a comedian to make cancer and leadership development entertaining — but Jen has done it. Her seminars, keynotes, and workshops are designed for leaders and their teams, healthcare providers, people living with cancer, and caregivers who crave actionable lessons from the heart and the opportunity to laugh at life’s absurdity. Jen Coken designs her content for listeners who think differently when it comes to breakthroughs and discovery. She listens to the heart of her audiences, allowing her to go deeper than most presenters. Jen motivates her participants to trust their instincts and find new paths to growth, success and being themselves.

Jen Coken is a life coach of 20 years who helps CEOs and entrepreneurs overcome their self-made limitations and reach new levels in their business and personal lives. Jen’s first book “When I Die, Take My Panties: Turning Your Darkest Moments Into Your Greatest Gifts” chronicles the experience of coping with her mother's death from ovarian cancer, and shares Jen’s core message—everything that comes our way is meant to teach us about ourselves. When she’s not crafting bestselling books or speaking to audiences around the country, you can find Jen performing stand-up comedy, or, eating Nutella by the spoonful in the nearest grocery aisle.

Are You Willing To Fail Spectacularly?

Fifteen years ago, Jen Coken was faced with a monumental choice — to follow her heart to Colorado or stay in Washington, DC where she had built a successful high-profile consulting business. In a brief conversation with a friend, she chose to move. That one bold action launched her into a lifetime of giving up the familiar and taking a chance on the unknown — of being willing to fail spectacularly.

As entrepreurs we are often faced with these kinds of decisions: do we take a chance and be surprised by the ending, or do we hold back in case the whole thing goes down in flames?

Using her life experiences, coaching skills and comedic background, Jen will take you on a journey so that you too can dream big, shoot for the stars, and build an epic life.

The Three Keys to Being a Viral Leader

Have you always wanted to be the kind of leader people natuarlly want to follow? The great leaders of our time make it look so easy. Perhaps they were born that way or perhaps they read the right books. Neither is the case. Great leadership isn’t innate, and it can’t be measured solely by the actions you take. If you want to be the kind of leader people naturally want to follow you must learn how to build a great relationship with yourself and build great relationships with others.

Takeaways from this talk:

Deal with the Facts, Stop Telling Stories: Learn to identify and let go of the unconscious perceptions you have about yourself and others that stop you from being authentic.

Say Everything, That Matters: When you see someone going in the wrong direction, learn how to assertively and respectfully approach them and say what everyone else is thinking.

Empower Those Around You: Empowerment starts by looking in another’s direction – that is where growth happens. When you are look

When I Die, Take My Panties

Ovarian cancer claims the lives of 14,000 American women and 140,000 women worldwide every year. Jen Coken, whose mother died from the disease, has a mission to end late-stage diagnosis by educating women about the signs and symptoms. “If I knew then what I know now, my mother might still be alive,” Coken says.

On a mission to encourage women to be more proactive in their health and to become more aware of warning signs in their body in order catch cancer earlier on, Coken shares her own experiences with her mother’s death and the grieving and healing process she went through, she educates readers on how ovarian cancer is far more treatable if caught early on, and also inspires readers to find personal growth in the midst of their own tragedies.

Coken also uses jokes she co-wrote with her late mother to bring awareness. For example, as Coken’s mother’s disease progressed she looked like she was pregnant. Her mother used to rest snacks on her “belly” just like she did “when I was pre
