Most innovation experts come from one of three places: they're coaches who understand people but struggle with process, methodologists who run tight sprints but miss the human dynamics, or Lean/Agile practitioners who optimize systems but underestimate culture. Few have worked seriously in all three. My work sits at the intersection of ICF PCC-level executive coaching, human-centered design thinking, and 20 years of Lean/Agile practice — credentials that rarely appear in the same practitioner, let alone the same room. That combination is not incidental. It's the reason clients like HP, Ford, T-Mobile, and Pfizer return: because sustainable innovation requires all three working together, and most approaches address only one. Leadership doesn't come with a title. In today's world many of us are expected to lead well before we get the leadership role. Even if that weren't the case, the ambitious have learned that learning to lead gets you the job. Then there are those who just want to make things better and realize it's going to take leadership from someone, maybe even them. Lastly, there are those who have the role and need to learn when to leverage authority and when to pull another tool out of their leadership toolbox. No matter how you look at it, having a firm grasp on how and when to use authority is a great way to make a difference and boost your career
