TOUCHED BY MY GUARDIAN ANGEL
Preface
Psalm 91: 10-12 A heavenly spirit assigned by God to watch over each of us during our lives. The doctrine of angels is part of the Church's tradition. The role of the guardian angel is both to guide us to good thoughts, works and words, and to preserve us from evil.
Nobody gives much thought to one of God’s greatest gift-The gift of our Guardian Angel. This book is dedicated to my Guardian Angel.
As I begin to write this book my final chapter hasn’t been written yet! It will take me another 4 years to complete it. I am just finishing up my first year of a five year program to be ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church. But I feel like I am being led to tell my story about how my Guardian Angel has impacted my life and where I’ve been and where I’m being led by my Guardian Angel in my spiritual journey. I have no idea how this book will end? But I do know how it started…..

Sitting in the office of the Director of Diaconate Formation Program I’m meeting with Deacon Tim. This is the first step in being accepted into the Diaconate (Deacon) program. The very first thing Deacon Tim asked me is “Why are you here?” I responded by saying that I no idea! But something greater than me has put me in this chair. I didn’t understand why I was there but something drove me here. Not sure how he took that response? But, I hoped that one day I would understand what God’s plan for me was?

One year later I found out why. A week ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of my small bowels. After a lot of tears and prayers I now know why I was sitting in that chair. God, through my Guardian Angel, planned to help me build my spiritual strength, to deal with, and to combat my suffering. And becoming involved in the Diaconate Formation program did just that…..
In the Beginning: 1954-1972
I was born in 1954 into a family where my mother was Catholic and my father was Protestant. They were both non-practicing in their religion but decided that their children were to be born into, and brought up in, the Catholic Church. My 4 siblings and I all received our sacraments growing up.
When I was born I was born 2 months premature. I weighed slightly over 2 pounds and was not expected to live. I like telling this true story about how I was named. My parents planned on naming their first boy Kevin. When the doctors told them that I was not going to live they quickly Baptized and they needed a name on my birth records and Baptism certificate. They decided not to name me Kevin because they didn’t want to waste it on a child who was about to die. So they quickly gave me my Father’s name. But I guess God had plans for me because I survived. The next sibling in my family was a boy and his name was Kevin.
My mother told me that when I was born I had eczema all over my body and she was too embarrassed to take me out in public. When she did she would cover the carriage so people couldn’t see me.
