Bio

Mary Ottman is a highly trained Certified Leadership Coach, Speaker, and Author.

The Serious: With an MBA and a Masters in Leadership, Mary forged a successful 27+ year career in a male-dominated technology organization transforming herself from electrical engineer to successful executive leading multi-generational teams consisting of government, industry, academia, and not-for-profits.

The Scintillating: Mary is a unique combination of highly trained leadership expert, fearless adventurer able to leap off a tall 108-story building, and retired Associate Director formerly managing 150 rocket scientists.

Mary is on a mission to empower others to stop playing small, to overcome Imposter Syndrome, to self-diagnose their leadership blind spots, and to break through the barriers that are capping their success.

Mary's primary leadership topic: (either speech or workshop formats)

1) How to Self-Diagnose the Leadership Blindspots that are Holding You Back and You Don't Even Realize It!

DESCRIPTION: These are the behavioral blind spots that others find too awkward to mention to you, and they are the behaviors that are capping your success and you don't even know it.

2) How to Move Your Multi-Generational Team from Miffed to Motivated so that they enjoy working together to achieve fantastic results.

3) How to Powerfully Plan to Achieve Your Purpose and Profits!

DESCRIPTION: Many of the leaders Mary has spoken with have trouble finding employees that know how to plan two and three steps ahead. They desperately need staff that can be given a task and a deadline, and the staff can run with it from there.

This talk outlines the keys to Powerful Planning so that your staff can develop full-featured plans that only need a few tweaks instead of them bringing you a blank piece of paper and asking you to feed them their next steps every single day.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT MARY's SPEAKING:

"I co-organize the Lead Developer Meetup in Austin, TX. Our mission is to help software engineering leaders grow their skills and build great software teams.

We had Mary Ottman speak at our meetup, and she was a delight from beginning to end. She was easy to work with, professional, and handled hiccups (like our hard-to-find meetup location) with grace and humor.

Her talk was fun and engaging, she involved the audience well, and had great answers to their questions. She’s got a ton of real-world knowledge, tools, and techniques for helping engineering leaders build safe, happy, and productive teams. The content in the presentation was useful and applicable, and I’d love for more managers to see" - Brandon Hays

  • "I was absolutely blown away by Mary's courage and vulnerability. It was a goosebumps and gasps moment that I will never forget. Her story is a true testament to how we each have the power to set ourselves free no matter the circumstances. Plus, she is a hoot and a half, entertaining as hell, and I could listen to that southern accent all day long."

    Mary Ottman Leadership Presentation Testimonial
Video Testimonial Given by: Rhonda Evans, PMP Video Transcript: "Hey, I wanted to share a really good experience I had yesterday on a webinar, an NAPW webinar, on women empowerment and leadership. Um, there were three great panelists and Mary Ottman, with perspective and her approach to the subject was very enlightening and I walked away feeling, indeed, empowered to basically go after that next thing, don’t second-guess yourself, don’t try to filter your actions basically. Why not you, why not let it play out? Why not go for that role, go for that promotion, go for that elusive goal that you are trying to achieve? So, it was very insightful. And I would really recommend Mary for engagements and, in fact, I would love to see her again and I really, as I said, really enjoyed her perspective and energy and just her realness that she brought to the conversation." • We have invited Mary Ottman for two consecutive years to speak at our annual Administrative Professional Leadership Conference. She is so engaging, as well as motivating. She is humorous but gets her points across in a way that really challenges you to step out of your comfort zone and strive to be the best you can be. She speaks on our level and makes it her priority to address situations that challenge us daily. She makes everyone feel like she is your own personal coach and truly cares about your success. I highly recommend her for any speaking engagement. Our company does a full day conference with breakout workshops and she handles that wonderfully.
