Bio

I have a shocking training confession: I’m a bad student. I know what it’s like to stare at a screen and be frustrated by poorly implemented learning programs. By engaging people with the right content, in the right place at the right time, I can get people excited about learning in our distracted world.

I’ve always liked sharing knowledge. As a kid, I was the person who read the museum plaque so I could tell my family what I learned. Today, I do the same thing on a larger scale through instructional design and multimedia learning technologies. In short, I unpack topics into easy to understand learning.

At Mindset Digital I develop videos and online courses to educate learners on social media and online best practices. When planning each video, course and training session, I like to think about the big picture. This involves:

● unpacking objectives to ensure each training program engages and educates the learner, aligns with organizational goals and provides an appropriate solution.

● designing high-impact visuals to capture the audience's attention

● staying on top of current advances and changes in learning technology to deliver results with optimum effectiveness and efficiency

I like to joke that I’m extremely motivated by my own laziness. There’s a kernel of truth to it, though: I love finding new shortcuts so people can work smarter and no harder than a task requires. It’s refreshing when I can take what I’ve learned and help somebody do their job better. And every success story just inspires me to keep pushing further in the quest for more learning and better results.

A Few Things L&D Should Steal from Marketing

We may not realize it, but as learning professionals, we have a lot of things in common with marketers. We both face one big challenge: How to get people’s attention and help them think and act in new ways.

So what can we learn from marketing teams? As it turns out, a lot. In today’s hyper-distracted world, we must first engage our audience if we have any hope of informing them. Savvy marketers understand how to use the latest technologies and tap into the psychology of emotions — there’s a reason you don’t see bullet points in advertising.

In this session, we reveal some tools and techniques that marketers have been successfully using for years to capture attention and move people to take action.

The Art & Science of E-learning

This presentation gives you the foundation for building great multimedia learning materials by introducing some of Richard Mayer’s proven design principles. Understanding how people learn, enables you to move beyond the typical ‘information dump’ approach to crafting truly effective learning experiences that are ‘made to stick’!

You Already Know How to Build M-learning (You Just Don’t Know It Yet)

Mobile learning is rapidly becoming a must-have for organizations big and small. For most designers, getting started is a huge hurdle they have yet to overcome. Considering all the new technology, platforms, authoring tools, and skills required to make it all work can paralyze even the best learning pros.

In this session, you’ll learn how quick and easy it can be to build mobile learning with skills and tools that you already have. If you have PowerPoint (yes, PowerPoint), you have everything you need to create visually appealing, interactive, and dynamic mobile learning solutions including mobile-friendly videos and interactive eBooks.

In this session, you will learn:

» mobile-friendly learning content types that can be easily authored from PowerPoint
» How to quickly and easily create mobile-friendly videos
» How to create interactive eBooks

Building Your Professional Portfolio: It’s Easier Than You Think!

Standard resumes and cover letters are no longer sufficient if you want to stand out from the crowd. Having a good portfolio has always been important for freelancers, but it’s quickly becoming a must-have for anyone in e-learning who hopes to snag the best opportunities that come along, inside your organization or out. Having a portfolio is a great way to showcase your accomplishments, skills, experiences, and personality. Creating a great looking e-learning portfolio is easier than you think. With more options than ever before, anyone can build an e-learning portfolio that looks like a million bucks.
