Muhamad Aly Rifai is a distinguished psychiatrist based in Easton, Pennsylvania, with extensive experience and expertise across multiple specializations. In addition to being an internist and addiction specialist, Dr. Rifai is a dynamic researcher with a particular focus on neurostimulation, psychedelics, and clinical development.
Dr. Rifai founded Blue Mountain Psychiatry over 11 years ago, which has since grown to become the largest independent psychiatric group in the Lehigh Valley with over 30 employees. The organization provides a range of treatments, including private psychiatry, addiction treatment, ketamine therapy, and telepsychiatry. Blue Mountain Psychiatry is currently developing a fifth treatment facility for the Eastern Pennsylvania region.
In addition to his work at Blue Mountain Psychiatry, Dr. Rifai has served as the medical director for Eastern Pennsylvania since February 2013. In his role, he oversees the only local inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification and treatment program, focusing on ensuring quality care for all patients. Dr. Rifai's impressive academic background includes a clinical professorship in psychiatry for Misericordia University and previous clinical professor roles in psychiatry at DeSales University and Drexel University.
Dr. Rifai gained broad-based medical knowledge early in his career through internships and studies at institutions such as American International College and Aleppo University. He subsequently earned advanced degrees at Carilion Clinic and the University of Virginia, where he was chief resident for the internal medicine and psychiatry programs. He also earned a distinguished researcher award at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Rifai has been a life fellow with the American Psychiatric Association for over 24 years and, in addition, has served as a Janssen Scholar on severe mental illness since May 2000 for the APA Institute on Research and Education. Previously, he also served as the President and Counselor of the Lehigh Valley Psychiatric Society of the Pennsylvania Psych Society.
Dr. Rifai's research interests extend beyond traditional psychiatric care in areas such as Hepatitis C and mental illness. Furthermore, he served as the course director for a program focused on this discipline from May 2006 to May 2009.
