After studying chemistry at Columbia University in New York City, he finished Dartmouth Medical School, followed by the prestigious University of Colorado Health Sciences Center residency program in internal medicine. He then went to Yale University where he trained in cardiology, nuclear cardiology and cardiac and peripheral interventions.
He is quadruple board certified and re certified (in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology). He has gained local and national recognition.
He is voted by his peers as one of San Diego Magazines's Top Doctors in Cardiology 2013, 2014, 2016 to 2020. Castle Connolly has chosen him as Top Doctor in Interventional Cardiology in 2013 through 2020. Additionally, the Consumer's Research Council of America has added him to the list of America's Top Cardiologists in 2013 through 2019. He has been Doctor's of Excellence in Leaders of Healthcare publication 2014, 2015 and 2016 edition.
He serves on the CME oversight committee for the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions and is the medial relations chair for the California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.
He has been academically involved teaching students from USC and Midwestern School of Medicine. He serves on editorial board of Cardiology and Vascular Journal as well as Vascular Disease Management. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. He has lectured locally and nationally on diverse topics as well as had media appearances discussing important health topics.
