One thing most politicians do well is speak. I honed my public speaking skills across many different stages across the globe and of course in the challenging environment of the House of Commons chamber for five years. Occasionally, when not just voting through the governments program I was able to introduce new laws myself on some very gritty issues, not least knife crime. I relished holding ministers to account on both the Justice and Administrative Affaires Select Committees and serve between 2012 -2015 as the the Co-Secretary of the 1992 Back Bench Committee for Conservative MP's, or if you like the trade union for Conservative MPs. What goes on in Parliament makes for a fascinating story which is why I have written confessions of a Recovering MP published Jan 8 2018. When in Parliament I found a new passion, radio broadcasting and on occasions stood in for David Mellor to broadcast with Ken Livingston, and am pleased to say I still continue to make regular appearances on talkRADIO.
Confessions of a Recovering MP was written in the wake of the disastrous 2017 election campaign for the Conservatives. It takes the reader on a journey of a prominent backbencher, occasional rebel and persistent campaigner who comes across the bizarre, the hugely important and, thankfully, loads of utter nonsense.
Nick is available for speaking on political issues of the day, and for after dinner engagements.
