Chloride: Physiological Roles, Clinical Disorders, and Genetic Insights Across Human Health / Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance, Food Engineering Strategies
Zoom Record: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vpsRqdvViwzwcDBx6um3ISRTHvvgKMZm/view?usp=drive_link This presentation explores the essential roles of chloride in human physiology, including fluid balance, acid–base regulation, and membrane transport. It covers chloride absorption, deficiency, toxicity, and key transport mechanisms such as the chloride shift. Clinical conditions, including Congenital Chloride Diarrhea, Cystic Fibrosis, and Bartter syndrome, are highlighted alongside genetic insights from OMIM and NCBI. Diagnostic methods, treatment options, and population-specific adaptations are also summarized to provide a concise overview of chloride’s importance in health and disease. Zoom Record: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZqM-dc30-GWa4nvdkxP64oU2hr_OWIBJ/view?usp=sharing This presentation addressed the pathophysiological mechanisms of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, explaining the relationship between abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and hypertension. It discussed how insulin resistance in the liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. In the second part, the topic was evaluated from a food engineering perspective, presenting functional food strategies to support metabolic health, including the development of low-glycemic index products, reduction of sugar and saturated fat, and the use of bioactive components such as prebiotic fibers and polyphenols.
