Bio

I love public speaking and I am passionate about my topic. Because I've got ADHD, I've got the attention span of a gnat and can't bear to bore anyone. So you'll find my talks peppered with jokes, stories, fun facts and genuinely useful information that attendees can actually use in their daily lives.

I'm autistic too, so I over-deliver on pretty much everything. I develop each presentation with the dedication of a master craftsperson, because I figure if people are going to give up their time to listen to me, I should give them the best experience I possibly can. I've had public speaking training (I never present with notes), and I've even had voice coaching to improve my delivery.

My background is in communications and I have been an entrepreneur for 16 years. I run a neurodiversity consultancy - training organisations on being inclusive and why it will actually benefit them. I do a lot of speaking and advocacy in my free time too - I'm passionate about promoting the positives of conditions like autism, ADHD and dyslexia and bringing this knowledge to a wider audience.

Did you want a bit of personal stuff too? OK. I live with 5 boys (1 adult, 2 small, 2 feline) in a suburb of Manchester that estate agents call "leafy". I worry about banana monoculture and wonder what that weird noise is that my car is making.. I love nature and food and also you - for managing to read to the end of my bio. Thanks!

The power of change: learning to live as a weirdo

Being called a weirdo from an early age but never really understanding why, Rachel takes you on a fascinating journey through her life, as an undiagnosed youngster, to a confused adult, to how she finally found contentment as an adult. She weaves her story with facts about autism, ADHD and mental illness and tackles a serious subject with a blend of understanding and humour. She finishes on a powerful and inspiring note, showing how other people can also learn to live an authentic life. Unmissable.

What is neurodiversity and why should you care about it?

A fun and incredibly useful overview of what neurodiversity is and why it's important to hire neurodiverse people in the workplace. Covering ADHD, autism and dyslexia, Rachel goes beyond simply awareness training to give people a real understanding of what it's like to live with these conditions. She also talks about the strengths of being neurodiverse, and shows the benefits of neurodiverse inclusion.

LadyHD - why ADHD looks different in women and girls

An overview of the different reasons why ADHD looks different in women and girls, and why it is treated differently. Covering hormonal effects, cultural expectations and the influence of society, this talk tells women and girls how to advocate for themselves and how to manage their ADHD at different times in their life.

The talk is inclusive and all genders are welcome.
