Robert Kabera

Mr. Kabera will explain how predictive models used in finance and technology are fragile because dependent on conditions that, when not met, cause the model to fail (as happened with the housing mortgage industry in 2008 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020) and the market tanks. What’s needed is to harness the power of ML/AI to make critical infrastructure antifragile. Mr. Kabera will use Sync Energy's work with the electric grid as a case study.

Living through horrific events as a child fueled a drive in me that led me not just to enroll at Exeter that summer but to go on to attend Stanford and to win second place at Stanford’s most coveted tech competition for engineers. There are hundreds of children like me out there, perhaps in an overcrowded raft in the Mediterranean Sea or an undersupplied Middle Eastern camp, and I would be remiss if I did not advocate for their future. We must embrace the humanitarian challenge before us and we must reform our current methods for doing so. They say that history does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Rarely does it so closely echo the sounds of the past as today’s emerging crises echo my journey over the decades. This is a book for our global time.
