SPEAKER BIO: Rusti L Lehay
TALK TITLE: The Four Things Every Creative Needs: Sunlight, Rich Soil, Consistent Water Source & a Keen Attention to the Rotation of the Earth
Rusti first appeared as a storyteller on Popcorn Playhouse at six years old, then turned to write privately after traumatic events in her teens turned life into a maze. After four encouraging University professors in her 30s, she took her writing and story-telling seriously. From performing in the Stroll of Poets, she wrote for newspapers and magazines and won short story and poetry contests. Rusti has been published in numerous literary journals.
As a global editor, book, and writing coach, using her collaborative/immersive editing methods, writers, both novice and seasoned, craft and tweak their writing projects going on to become published. She has edited international best-selling compilation books.
Leading groups is a passion, and she has facilitated writing events for the Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter and the Boyle Street McCauley Centre for disenfranchised women and volunteered with Federally Sentenced women.
Currently, Rusti is most often found glued to her desk, spending far too much time on zoom mentoring speakers and collaboratively editing authors though she has snuck out to speak at events, offer workshops, appear and win second place at story slams, and regularly irk family members by not answering calls when she is writing.
Her primary mission, honed through a decade-plus of teaching weekly creative writing classes, creating over 165 Friday Writing Inspiration YouTube videos, and offering almost four years of online writing retreats, is to guide healing and self-awareness through the written word, inspire, provide value and make writing fun for anyone. She adores creating safe spaces for extremely talented creatures, especially those who don't know their talents yet!

Using the metaphors of warm sunlight, good soil, consistent flow of good water, and a keen attention to the rotation of the earth, I tell stories of how any creative needs these four things to survive and thrive in their chosen profession of creating.
For the audience of anyone with a credit card or multiple credit cards, I share how I eliminated huge consumer debt without a traditional job. The steps I took to eliminate debt are a bit extreme, and people have enjoyed this talk.
Audience for anyone needing to sell themselves, products or their services. I've given this talk three times and will give it again on June 13th to an online group and on June 17th in Toronto at the Editors' Association of Canada conference. Using Inceptive Marketing, a bit of woo-woo, and practice in an interactive session, people enjoyed this talk as well.
Here I share stories of how I wished for my former husband to die and a marriage enrichment seminar freed me before his death. How I wish I knew then what I know now and might have saved my marriage. Audience of couples.
In my early 60s, I made a 3-day promise that I carried on and released 25 pounds in a year and still feel great.
