There Is A Need For Us to CARE - Creating Alignment

As an individual, team or organization, there is a need to better understand and appreciate those within the company. By instituting CARE, we have a solid place to work from. CARE stands for:
- Collaboration - There is a need for us to work together, we are not in this alone. Look for collaboration options.
- Adaptability - We most consider the challenges but also emerge with opportunities and solutions. We need to embrace an adaptable mindset and rewire our thinking.
- Resilience - How do we build resilience into a difficult time? We must realize that this is a marathon and how can one become stronger on this journey
- Empathy - There is a need for us to show and demonstrate care and compassion to those around us at home and the workplace (even virtual) because we don't know what people are going through.

To CARE will help us thrive and grow as an individual and organization.

Not 'What' but 'Who'

Society asks us 'what do you do' or 'want to do', rather than asking the more important question of 'who you are'. Once we know 'who you are', we can then go on a journey to discover 'what you can do'.

Personal Branding and Relationship Management

When considering your business, have you engaged your employees to appreciate who they are? Do your employees understand the value of their contribution to the organization? The importance of lining your employees to your business is critical to your business success.

It STARTS With You: How to engage with others in a meaningful way

STARTS is an acronym I created to help individuals, especially those going through personal challenges, overcome obstacles. If you are encountering problems or the one who has been asked to help someone in need, STARTS is a process:
S - Support - we need to create a supportive environment
T - Trust - trust is critical in the development of support
A - Appreciation - we forget to appreciate the small things around us
R - Reflection - how we gain appreciation is by activating our reflective lens
T - Talk - the importance of conversation and how we build comfortable conversations
S - Strength - if we embrace START, we create a place of strength to move forward

Personal Storytelling: Discovering the Extraordinary in the Ordinary

This was the foundation of my 2011 TEDxSFU talk where I shared the importance of storytelling and how one might create a storytelling voice. I came up with the concept of CARPE from Carpe Diem. CARPE stands for Curiosity, Appreciation, Reflection, Perspectives, Experience and each of these are integral to the building of your personal story.

Relationship Building over Networking

All too often, society has us undertake networking where we go out and meet people and this can be transactional. Instead, the importance of transformational relationship building is far more significant because it is more authentic and genuine.

Whether you are an extrovert or an introvert, you can benefit from the lessons shared and make meaningful connections.

Tools on how to craft your personal brand, building relationships using tools and making the most of the opportunities presented to you is presented.

Lost and Found: Seeking the Past and Finding Myself

Recently published my travel memoir where I went in search of my ancestral roots in India with just a faded photograph and little else. In the process, it was also about realizing my own identity.

The book is about persistence, overcoming obstacles and not listening to the noise. The journey is beautifully shared through the places visited, the magnificence and hardships encountered and realizing how to embrace being a traveler. Did I find my grandfather's house...spoiler alert - difficult as it was, yes!

Identity can be a challenge. We may have come from somewhere else but grown up in different places. Many feel lost in this world or a challenge to try and describe their background or where they come from when asked. This book and talk helps to answer that question.

Testimonials (3)
  • I met Sam in 2012 when he gave a key note speech at a leadership conference I was at. Immediately he engaged the audiences attention and went on to tell us that he cares about each and every one of us and has not even met us all yet. This truly resonated with me and I went on to listen to his next talk about “Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary.” Sam has a way of engaging the audience and making everyone who hears him feel his presence. Since then, I have seen him speak at multiple events and every single time, I leave feeling more inspired and impacted by his talks. Sam speaks from his heart and is an advocate for many not for profits. It is people like Sam that make the world a better place by sharing his passion and purpose in life with the audience. I admire how Sam holds space for the audience to feel his presence and be able to ask questions and become fully engaged. Sam is a true leader who encourages everyone he meets to redefine their finish lines. It is an honour to know him and I look forward to attending more of his talks in 2019.

  • Sam’s ability to connect with his audience is a transcendent experience, which transforms our commonly held perceptions and permits a subtle paradigm shift in thinking

  • Sam's energy is infectious for all the right reasons: ideas aplenty, successes delivered, and a storytelling style that is to be envied. He means what he says, and he says it so well = he's someone to listen to as he'll make you think, and he'll make you act. Nice, that!
