About
I have 16 years of experience discussing topics that come from that heart and build community.
Beginners Guide to Behavior
In the world there are so many unspoken rules of behavior. Something as simple as not maintaining eye contact or as complex as screaming in a public space are seen as rude and inconsiderate. For so many folks with disabilities it can feel impossible to abide by these unspoken rules. Together we will discuss harmful misconceptions put on those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Through this we can create a new understanding of what behavior is, what it's telling us, and how we can be true advocates of those with IDD.
Working with IDD
For many of us with disabilities, feeling welcome and understood in the professional world can feel like an impossible task. In this presentation we will discuss the troubles that those with disabilities face, and how we can challenge that through accommodations made easy. Attendees will get the opportunity to see what's under the surface, and how to help. While these tactics are built for those with disabilities, it's really a way to make everyone at work feel welcomed, and cared for. This way everyone can give their best when they clock in!
It's the Thought that Counts
In this presentation we will discuss ways that many folks try to support those with disabilities, and how it can actually be harmful instead. We will go over topics like infantilization, learned helplessness, and get a chance to see things through the eyes of those with IDD (intellectual and Developmental Disabilities). Join me to find out how it's NOT the thought that counts.
