Why We Do What We Do – Understanding Internal and External Influences
Why do we react the way we react, choose what we choose, and repeat patterns we promised ourselves we would change? In this powerful and thought-provoking presentation, Seth Atwater breaks down the true drivers behind human behavior by exploring both our internal wiring and the external forces shaping our lives. At the core of this session is a deep dive into the 5 Levels of Consciousness, which explain our internal influences: 1-Actions – what we do and say. 2-Thoughts – what we think, imagine, and dream. 3-Feelings – what we feel and sense emotionally and physically. 4-Context – how we experience life and interpret our reality. 5-Unconscious – the automatic processes and patterns running beneath our awareness. Seth demonstrates how these levels interact to create our behaviors, reactions, and relational patterns—often without us realizing it. Equally important are the 6 Spheres of Influence, the external forces that shape us from the outside: 1-Focus – God, self, and spouse. 2-Family – parents, siblings, in-laws, and children. 3-Friends – extended family, close friends, and organizations we intentionally engage in. 4-Acquaintances – people and places we encounter but do not actively seek out. 5-Community – individuals and systems in our community that impact our lives, even if we don’t regularly interact with them. 6-Geo-Political – the broader cultural, national, and global forces influencing our world. Drawing from over 20 years of experience and his External Experiential Processing (EEP) model, Seth equips audiences with practical tools to recognize hidden patterns, quiet interfering thoughts, and intentionally reshape their responses. Attendees walk away with greater self-awareness, stronger relational insight, and a clear framework for creating meaningful, lasting change—personally and professionally.
Building Self-Worth and Trust That Transforms Relationships
In this inspiring and practical presentation, Seth Atwater explores the powerful connection between self-worth and trust—and how strengthening both can transform your faith, your relationships, and your confidence. Participants will discover that self-worth is built on two essential foundations: belonging and self-confidence. Belonging answers the question, “Do I matter and am I accepted?” while self-confidence answers, “Am I capable?” When both are nurtured, individuals develop a grounded sense of identity that fuels resilience, courage, and meaningful connection. From there, Seth unpacks the two critical components of trust: 1-Confidence in reliability – believing someone will consistently show up and follow through. 2-Confidence in capability – believing someone has the ability to do what is needed. Through clear teaching and real-life application, attendees will learn how to build trust in Christ by understanding His perfect reliability and divine capability. They will also learn how to strengthen trust in themselves by demonstrating personal consistency and competence—proving to themselves that they can both show up and follow through. Finally, Seth provides practical tools for building deeper trust within families and friendships by intentionally modeling reliability and capability in everyday interactions.
The 4 Levels of Motivation – Becoming the Person You Choose to Be
Why do we really do what we do? In this engaging and thought-provoking presentation, Seth Atwater explores the four levels of motivation that drive every choice we make—and how understanding them can transform the way we live, lead, and grow. Participants will learn the four distinct levels: 1-Fear of Consequences – “I do it to avoid a negative outcome.” 2-Desire for Reward – “I do it to gain something.” 3-Love – “I do it because I love someone or something, and my action benefits them.” 4-Character – “I do it because it’s who I am. It’s the right thing to do.” Using the timeless story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis, Seth guides audiences through a powerful analysis of the Pevensie children—Peter Pevensie, Susan Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, and Lucy Pevensie—illustrating how each child exemplifies one of the four levels of motivation throughout the story. By examining their decisions, struggles, and growth, attendees will gain fresh insight into their own motivational patterns. The presentation also explores how time and proximity influence motivation—how distance from consequences or rewards can weaken resolve, and how closeness to love or identity can strengthen it. Attendees will leave with practical tools to evaluate their current motivations, intentionally elevate them, and harness higher levels of motivation to create lasting change. This session challenges participants not just to act differently, but to become the kind of person whose character drives courageous, consistent, and meaningful choices.
