We help bridge the multigenerational gap within your organization
Digital Media and the Multigenerational Gap
Current working Americans have been categorized into four main generations. The workforce consists of the following generations defined by age: Traditionalists/ Silent (72-89), Baby Boomers (50-71), Generation X (35-49), and Generation Y/Millennials (14-34). With multiple generations working together, generational conflicts concerning communication styles and work ethic/values has created a unique workplace environment. The differences today between generations are more complexed and profound which makes it more difficult for employees to communicate. An older worker may prefer formal writing and face-to-face communication versus a younger worker who may prefer an e-mail and instant messaging. A positive psychology approach to behavioral change identifies the elements that empower individuals and groups to thrive, grow, be happy personally and professionally. A positive psychology intervention using technology may assist in closing the multigenerational communication gap.
