Tanya is the Founder & CEO of Grow Your Wealth. A financial education program that teaches professionals and small business owners how to ditch bad debt and create a comfortable retirement even if they have no plans in place.
She is a CPA and holds an MBA in Strategic Management. Tanya has spent her 24+ years career on Wall Street bringing together perspectives from a variety of roles in the banking and insurance industry - auditing, writing accounting and regulatory policies, writing and analyzing financial statements and reviewing and opining on some of the largest transactions of multinational institutions. Her most recent role was a regulator at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Tanya's life is one of sheer determination and beating the odds while creating the life she desire. In 1988, after graduating high school, her parents knew they would not be able to send her on to higher education. They were able to gather the last few dollars they could find and purchased an airline ticket for her to go to America.
At 16 years old, Tanya arrived in America alone with an airline ticket to return back to Jamaica in exactly one month, but with the hope and prayers of her family that she would get the opportunity to stay and build a better life. She was fortunate to get the opportunity to stay. As an undocumented teen, Tanya faced a myriad of obstacles. She however undaunted by the challenges, and created a plan to build a better life for herself and her family.
By age 25, she purchased her first home (it was partially stolen from her for 17 years…a story by itself), graduated college debt-free and became part owner in a small business. Her determination not to live paycheck to paycheck motivated her to co-founded an investment club which she successfully ran for about 6 years. She also founded a children’s financial education club. In keeping with her passion and mission to help others escape the cycle of poverty, Tanya has spent over 20 years teaching all areas of personal finance, using simple digestible lifelong strategies.
Through investing Tanya has been able to create a $600k+ college portfolio for her children years before they were ready for college, and grew her retirement portfolio in the seven figures by age 48. She has been featured in various publications including Business Insider, Black Enterprise and Thriving Women and has contributed to articles in publications such as The U.S. News & World Report, Haven Life and Nextdoor Advisor/Time.
Tanya is on a mission to teach others how to build generational wealth, and stop the cycle of poverty. She knows her compelling story will create lifelong changes in people’s lives, no matter where they are on their journey.
