You would never know it looking at her now, but Teresa comes from an extremely difficult childhood that involved sexual, verbal, physical, and emotional abuse by her own father and very little support or protection from her mother. She grew up in poverty in Hickory, NC, and often had no food or heat and lived in very difficult circumstances. Her own parents made it clear that she (the product of an affair) was not wanted and was not of value.
Despite circumstances that would cause many people to crumble and surrender, Teresa always knew she had intrinsic worth, and has always felt a determination to rise above and find joy and success in life.
Later in life, Teresa survived a massive stroke at the age of 29 while pregnant with her fifth child. She was told she would die that night, but she was determined to not only survive, but thrive. She still suffers the effects of that stroke to this day with vision loss and numbness, but she treats those as physical limitations as reminders of how fortunate she is to be alive instead of being bitter or making excuses. Life would test Teresa once again when, after 19 years of marriage, and five children, she was widowed after her husband lost his battle with cancer.
Teresa has always chosen to rely on her unfailing positivity to rise above and always keep going no matter what life brings her way. She chooses to be happy, and then and shares how others can find meaning, desire, purpose, and joy in life. Teresa firmly believes that you are a magnet for anything that you want to attract in your life, and that the “hard” actually is there to STRENGTHEN you, not defeat you.
Teresa has been sharing her message all around the world for nearly twenty years now to groups of all sizes and demographics. Her desire is to encourage the audience to seek for more, and to find their own unique and limitless potential.
