Valentin Schmid

Valentin Schmid is the business editor of The Epoch Times, the English edition of the largest Chinese newspaper independent of the Communist Party.

The Epoch Times was founded in 2003 and publishes in 21 languages in 35 countries across five continents.

Mr. Schmid has become a recognized expert on the Chinese economy by focusing on crucial issues often overlooked or misunderstood by mainstream media: inefficient debt-financed growth, the inability to innovate, capital flight, and the real story behind China’s exchange rate mechanism and huge foreign exchange reserves.

Mr. Schmid has correctly predicted the resulting volatility in the Chinese economy in his articles, as well as on-the-record speeches before doubt about the Chinese economic miracle became mainstream over the last few years. He is ranked in the 99.99 percentile on Klout.com for China expertise.
