Working as an ESL instructor for several years in Japan taught me about my cultural biases as a Canadian by birth. Returning to Toronto, I came to realize that cultural competency is essential when in transition, whether it is to a new country or to a different organization. As the founder of Hiyaku Coaching (which is Japanese for "great progress") I have given talks and facilitated workshops on cross-cultural competency, integrating newcomers, and adapting to Canadian workplace culture.
