Dr. Judy E. Vansiea is an entrepreneur, owner, operator and a practitioner of Coping Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry Services. She is licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty of Psychiatry in New York. Using a faith-based approach to mental health treatment, Dr. Vansiea founded her practice as a testament to her commitment to help people cope, adjust, and adapt to life’s adversities. Dr. Vansiea has worn and continues to wear many hats as a woman of faith, former wife, single mother, former faculty member, an author, nurse, provider, former Guardian Ad Litem, mediator, former first lady of the church, black and female leader and entrepreneur. She is also a former US Army First Lieutenant and served at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Vansiea understands, respects and values culture with diversity being a Liberian born and raised, growing up in NYC too and living and being educated in the South, Midwest and East-Coast. Dr. Vansiea is a living, breathing, and walking proof of God’s grace, overcoming hardships and pain. She knows how it feels to be a nurse, patient, and provider and effectively shares her testimony to engage, encourage, and empower the lives of others. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy 3 years ago when I was 22 years old, but my journey started two decades (20 years) before that. I was misdiagnosed with ADHD, ODD, anxiety, and depression growing up, but it was actually narcolespy all along. This journey made me want to be an advocate for narcolepsy. I am a volunteer EMT and firefighter (not currently active because of school), in the electroneurodiagnostic technology program with only two more semesters until I graduate. I work two different PRN jobs at the university hospital which are an unit partner in the medicine specialty unit and a monitor technician in the EMU (epilepsy monitoring unit). I am the facilittator for the young adults with narcolepsy support group through Wake Up Narcolepsy. I a past member of Rising Voices of Narcolepsy through Project Sleep.
