As assistant principal at McKinley, Dr. Johnson led a student advocate group to address bullying of Somali students after a student walkout and a federal intervention. Dr. Johnson has written about implicit bias in education and had to work through those realities. The St. Cloud School District has more than 50% students of color, a similar makeup to ISD 197. At the same time, Dr. Johnson also understands the value of bringing a smile. In February, he shared his unconventional morning routine, which includes a pair of roller-skates Fox 9(MPLS,KARE11) did a story on Dr. Johnson skating at Two Rivers High School: “I made a vow I would not be a traditional principal,” Dr. Johnson said.

Her mission wasn’t just about awareness – it was about empowerment. She wanted parents to spot the early signs, to fight for their children, to become the advocates their kids desperately needed. But that was just the beginning. Think of Camille as a bridge builder. She’s pushed open doors in Hollywood, advising TV and film producers on how to portray autism authentically. She’s crossed oceans, working with Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Holding Company to shape their Annual Autism Conference since 2018. When she speaks, people listen – from corporate boardrooms to government chambers. In 2020, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed her to the State Disability Council. That same year, as America grappled with questions of police reform, Camille penned a powerful CNN essay about Walter Wallace, forcing us to confront the intersection of autism, race, and law enforcement. She’s not just talking about change – she’s creating it. In 2022, she co-authored groundbreaking research on autism parent training specifically for Black families. I use my background in business and design combined with my interest in politics and workplace democracy to inform the operations and positioning of Louder Than Ten. We fight like hell for electoral democracy, but when it comes to the institutions that affect us most directly (and where we spend the majority of our waking life), our workplaces, the default mode is dictatorship. The truth is, voting for a politician will never have as much impact as having a direct say in how many hours you work, how you and your peers get paid, your job security, your benefits, or how you’re treated at work. Bringing democracy to work begins in the operating procedures and decision-making power afforded to employees. Project management is one of the most powerful tools we have to design processes and distribute power in more equitable ways.
