Director of Operations & Design
I use my background in business and design combined with my interest in politics and workplace democracy to inform the operations and positioning of Louder Than Ten. We fight like hell for electoral democracy, but when it comes to the institutions that affect us most directly (and where we spend the majority of our waking life), our workplaces, the default mode is dictatorship. The truth is, voting for a politician will never have as much impact as having a direct say in how many hours you work, how you and your peers get paid, your job security, your benefits, or how you’re treated at work. Bringing democracy to work begins in the operating procedures and decision-making power afforded to employees. Project management is one of the most powerful tools we have to design processes and distribute power in more equitable ways. I want digital workers to be as passionate about workplace democracy as they are about design systems and development frameworks. Like most in the green industry, Raynes experience starts young working with the family business. The wholesale nursery started in the heart of Louisiana in the early 2000’s to grow containerized product for our local businesses and customers throughout the southern united states. This gave the opportunity to build a nursery from the ground up. Years working for the nursery, watching it grow from the humble 10 acres to over 100, gained experience in every aspect of running a nursery. To pursue further knowledge and experience Rayne graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science with a focus in horticulture. While there, he invested time into working for retail garden centers, research associates, research facilities, and internships at some of the biggest names in wholesale growing. Entering the professional world, and searching for resources that are made specifically for nurseries and landscapers, it was quickly apparent that there are very limited tools to help those in the green industry. Starting his career at a wholesale growing operation in Louisiana, rising from inventory management to sales, then to general manager, proved to be where the hidden passion for analyzing and building businesses from the inside out was found. Becoming profound in the art of logistics, production, purchasing, budgeting, spray programs, and facilities, all to name a few of the improvements made. Since then, Rayne has worked with businesses across the southern United States helping them build their companies and achieve their goals. To further exposure and help others in the industry he served on boards for both the LNLA (Louisiana Nursery Landscape Association) and TNLA (Texas Nursery Landscape Association) where he has helped collaborate with businesses in the industry to solve issues and create a community to be heard on the national scale.
