Scaling-up the Strategic IQ of entrepreneurs and their unicorn-bound ventures, I deliver unforgettable keynote speeches for entrepreneurship events that engage, educate, and entertain. Entrepreneurs seeking competitive advantage in the fog of venturing will be enlightened and inspired to venture with vision! Yes, I am totally blind. And, while lacking eyesight, I abound with entrepreneurial insight! Known as The Startup Unicorn Trainer, I’m Dr. Steven James "SJ" Maranville, Chairman of Maranville Enterprises—The Guide by the Entrepreneur's Side. Born with eyesight; I had the DNA that would ultimately cause the loss of that sight. By age 7, I was legally blind. And, into adulthood, I was totally blind. This loss resulted in a traumatic fear of change. Realizing life’s only true certainty is change, it was imperative for me to conquer that fear. So, I embarked on a life-long study of change. I now use those lessons to educate entrepreneurs and their unicorn-bound ventures on how to be adaptive and transformational. In a manner of speaking, I boost the “vision acuity” of entrepreneurs who are adrift in the fog of venturing by removing their blindspots and fitting them with new lenses so they Venture With Vision!

IMPROVentures has three divisions that Milo has led since 2000, working with large companies (Qualcomm, Sempra, Kodak, Minolta), small companies, associations, and (for coaching) individuals at various career points. (1) Motivational speaking (2) public speaking skills coaching (3) team building through improvisaiton. [MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING] Milo's motivational speaker keynotes are a great fit for larger groups in San Diego and nationwide. The stories are fun and inspirational and there's a large section in the middle where even a large audience gets to play a few games with the people around them...right from their seats. We even have a program where a duo or trio of improvisers come and perform ten improv games that prove ten business points -- like on sales or management or teamwork -- creating a fresh show each time that also hits home with its message. See testimonials and video at www.MotivationalSpeakerMilo.com [PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS COACHING] Milo is the author of "Public Speaking: Get A's, Not Zzzzzz's!" and has spent over ten years as a coach, trainer, and speaker ON the topic of speaking. Book details and info about coaching available at www.PublicDynamics.com. See more testimonials on Yelp.com. [TEAMBUILDING] TEAMprovising is our most interactive program where your group is led through a variety of games for 1 to 6 hours as a team building event that also enhances creativity, communication, and commitment. I spent over 15 years as a content developer and a senior film executive at studios such as MGM and Sony, and then earned a PhD in psychology from UCLA where I researched the impact of media on children. This unique background informs my perspective. I work at the intersection of positive youth development, entertainment media and scientific research. The entertainment media that tweens and teens spend hours consuming shape their attitudes and behaviors, and as such can be an effective way to impact social learning. My hope is that the work I do addresses the critical matter of helping kids grow up healthy and safe in the 21st century. I strive not to give into the agenda of any “side” in the discussion, and instead speak to the facts while recognizing the perspective of all stakeholders (industry, parents, academics). Currently, I work with the national non-profit Common Sense Media and am an assistant adjunct professor at UCLA; I also frequently speak to a variety of audiences as well as consult for companies. Most importantly, I am the mom of two digital teens, a boy and a girl.
