About
I speak to healthcare audiences on the social and relational dimensions of care.
On the Giving of Care – For Healthcare Providers
Healthcare professionals are usually so consumed by the urgent tasks of caregiving that they fail to consider the social realities of care, including how care actually changes human relationships and one’s concept of self. Through this presentation, participants gain knowledge about caregiving as a phenomenon of social science, including a framework for understanding the social dimensions of care. This will enhance their leadership potential by improving their ability to relate to coworkers, patients, and families.
Cracking the Caregiving Code (For Current and Future Caregivers)
Caregivers are usually so busy with the tasks of caregiving that they rarely reflect upon the meaning of their activities. Non-caregivers usually don’t think about caregiving much at all, even though caregiving will likely touch their lives in the future. This thoughtful, emotive, and inspiring presentation breaks down caregiving into four component parts, motivating caregivers to get help and non-caregivers to give help.
Care for Others, Care for Yourself
People who are caregivers usually offer themselves to others with little thought of recognition or reward. However, it’s important for caregivers to know that in addition to caring for others, they must also take care of themselves. This compelling presentation emphasizes the giving and receiving of care – not only for others but also for oneself – as imperatives for wellness.
