Transitioning from Peer to Supervisor
In understanding the obstacles and challenges of going from a ‘peer’ to a ‘supervisor of former peers’, we assert that the key to a successful transition is equipping. If one is not sufficiently equipped, it can be the beginning of a trajectory of supervisory struggles. As the saying goes, “if you start wrong, you’ll end wrong”. What can make a significant difference to the journey is understanding the changes in not only how one will be perceived, but also the duties and the new levels of responsibility that come with the advancement. Whether you are in a position of senior leadership or new to the supervisory ranks, many of us step into the unfamiliar terrain of having to manage and lead those whom we were once peers. As such, this dynamic can be uncomfortable for those newly managed and the new manager as well. This presentation will help both, as well as those yet to encounter such, as it lays the foundational framework to successfully "transitioning from Peer to Supervisor."
