Ashley Scott is a data professional at a Fortune 500 company, career coach, motivational speaker, and recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award from former President Barack Obama. She is best known for sharing her blend of experience in public health and business analytics to encourage and champion the diversification of the talent pipeline in academia and data careers.
After hosting several focus groups and virtual fireside chats, she learned that women in underserved communities, including hers, were not encouraged to pursue STEM careers because they felt there is a lack of role models in the field. In pursuit of her mission to promote data literacy, she started the social media campaign #DataGirl in the summer of 2020 to increase the awareness of data careers and created data-inspired apparel and accessories. A portion of proceeds goes to her scholarship fund for under-represented people interested in data education certifications and careers.
Ashley has keynoted at events including Women In Data, FEM STEM Bahamas, IBM, New York Urban League, and Google, reaching audiences across the world to speak about her experience and share her expertise with data and technology. She also serves as a Women in Data Science Ambassador in a partnership with Stanford University and is a NASA Solar System Ambassador; here, she hosts events for people of all ages and educates them on the importance of solar exploration in STEM and data areas.
Ashley demonstrates that there is room for more people, especially women to thrive in her platform, Data Girl Ash, where she provides insight to people interested in using data and uplifting others to successful career success pathways.
