Safe Mode, Inc. Parent Class Class Descriptions Safe Mode Parent is a four-part class designed for parents that have children who have access to the Internet. The class can be taught in a two hour block. Each part will be presented by retired Internet Crimes Against Children investigator Chris Curley who worked on cases involving the sexual exploitation of children on a statewide Arizona task force. Part One will cover how we got to our current state of technology. Part Two will cover the crime of Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation. Part Three will cover the crimes of Exploiting a Minor and Sexting. Part Four will cover resolution and how to deter these crimes as a parent.

In Safe Mode Elementary, Chris Curley discusses what the Internet is and how it can be accessed (hardware). Topics include who you should and should not communicate with online and what you should do if you or someone you know is contacted on the Internet by an individual that is asking you to do something that is inappropriate.

In Safe Mode Middle School, Chris Curley talks about the many changes that occur in a teen’s life while at this age and how exactly they fit in with others. Children in this group start having to make difficult decisions about their personal and school life. The importance of what they do and how they portray themselves on the Internet in front of others is discussed and suggestions are given about making good choices online rather than those that could be harmful. Communication with those they trust is stressed during these classes.
